Welcome to my site on 20th century New Jersey glass! My name is Jim Davies and I am the owner and publisher of this site.

On this web site I am going to show some examples of glass from the  1800's to the 1960's made in South Jersey. I personally collect and try to deal with mainly South Jersey glass but do have glass that is attributed to other areas of the North East. In order to try and keep the information here as accurate as possible I may not attribute a piece to a particular glass factory or artist but will try to attribute the piece to a general area such as Maryland, Ohio, New York or Pittsburgh. There were so many glass houses in this area it is near impossible to truly say where a piece comes from sometimes

My main objective is to try to help others interested in South Jersey glass learn and see some of the work done by a few of the fantastic glass artists of this time. I will only be touching on a few of the companies and artists from this area. It have heard it said that in the 1900's there were over 50 glass making operations in New Jersey if the back yard furnaces were counted. I do not doubt this. Many of the better gaffers had backyard operations and sold out of their homes at different times such as Emil Larson, Ted Ramp and August Hofbauer to name just a few.

If you have information you are willing to share please contact me!  I love to hear from those that have knowledge and do not mind teaching others!

Most of these photos are pieces from my collection. If you think I have identified a piece wrong please let me know so we can discuss it and I can change it if need be. Also, if you have a piece of glass you would like to see added from your collection to my site let me know. If I choose to add it I will be sure to give you credit for that piece.

On these pages you will find examples of various South Jersey pieces. To go to individual companies or artists please use the menu on the left. As my knowledge and collection grows, I will be updating these pages. Many of the pieces I have added this time are whimsies attributed to South Jersey.  You will also find a link to pieces I have for sale.

Please feel free to write me with questions and comments.

Thank you for your time and enjoy!

.Freeblown creamer & sugar in cornflower blue and a 6" tall freeblown pitcher attributed to Allie Clevenger, blown in the 1930" This is a rare color to find pieces in. All with crimpt foot.

This photo is of a freeblown double handled lilypad vase blown by Otis Coleman in the 1930's. It is almost an exact duplicate of pieces made in the 1800's. Otis Coleman worked at the Clevenger Brothers Glass Works located in Clayton New Jersey.

A freeblown pitcher with a reverse handle in a reddish amber colorUsing the known history t has been possible to attribute this piece to Whitney Glassworks I Glassboro, NJ

This is a "Fislerville Jenny Lind" flask made around 1850. Made at Fislerville Glass Works in bluish green color. The town changed it name to Clayton, NJ in 1867.

A freeblown sword whimsy attributed to South Jersey, possibly Millville area.  The gaffer who made this was very experienced at his craft!
